There may not be any results to judge a team on the football field yet, but the first judgments have already been made by the Associated Press in its preseason poll.
Rockdale, which reached the semifinals in 2009, starts the year at No. 8 in Class AAAA. The Bulldogs are just one of two 8-AAAA teams in the top 10 to start the season.
Clarke Central, who received one first place vote, is No. 3, behind Griffin and the top ranked team in Georgia's second-biggest classification, Northside-Warner Robins.
Region 8-AAAA's two topped ranked teams will have to wait throughout most of the season to face off as Rockdale travels to Clarke Central on Oct. 29.
The Bulldogs open the season Aug. 27 at Winder-Barrow.
That same day Heritage hosts Salem in the season opener, before travelling to Clarke Central in week two.
